About Lindley College

  • 1

Socialization and Interaction is a key component of Lindley College. Students work closely with their peers, staff, community members and local college students(fraternities & sororities) to build meaningful relationships. Staff and students work on rolemodeling prior to that week’s community outing to prepare students for various types of interaction. This includes visits to college campuses, career exposure events, and social outings. Lindley College also has a Student Government in which each student has a role fashioned around their strengths and interests. The students work together to create a College Chronicle each month to share the new experiences they’ve had.

    Career Exposure

Each month Lindley College focuses on a different area of vocation. With this they do research and conduct interviews of people within that vocation, with the idea of this evolving into internship opportunities for students. The students also manage the “Campus Store,” including accepting orders, creating products, managing supply and demand, delivery of items, purchase transactions, and item inventory. In December 2010, Lindley College ventured into Christmas Tree and Wreath sales. (Pictured below is a group during the trip to the mountains to pick up the trees). In the Spring the students plant crops and focus on developing skills in maintaining agriculture, harvesting, pricing and selling items at market.Profits from these ventures help fund futureactivities or trips for Lindley College.

    Community Service

Lindley College participates in community service as a group at least twice each month. Some of the previous and current opportunities include: bell-ringing for the Salvation Army; sorting clothes and making personal care bags for homeless shelters, working through volunteering and fundraising with the March of Dimes, Harvest Food Bank, the Guilford County Animal Shelter, as well as local Homeless Shelters. We are open to targeting opportunities that match students’ interests so that each experience is as person-centered and rewarding as possible.
