Meredith Woehr - Autism Specialist

"I am the instructor of all social skills groups for children with ASD.  I gather information from parents and then design social skills classes for the children enrolled.  We meet for one hour once a week for 5 week sessions. Students have referred to social skills class as “the highlight of the week!”  We have a great time while learning valuable lessons.  Call me to discuss which class may be most appropriate for your child.

There are currently two groups offered: Lower elementary (1st-3rd graders) and Upper elementary (3rd-5th graders).  Additional groups may be added for grades PreK- High School.

Social skills groups

Are designed for students that have been diagnosed with Asperger’s and/or High-functioning Autism.  Students meet for one hour each week to receive instruction on specific social skills.  Lessons are designed specifically for the students enrolled.  Prior to enrollment, parents are asked to complete a “Social Profile” for their child in order to provide the instructor with specific information regarding areas in which their child exhibits strengths as well as areas of weakness.  The instructor then designs lessons that target the areas where each student needs additional practice.

Methods of instruction include: discussion, games, role plays, video modeling, social stories, and scripts.  At the conclusion of each lesson, parents will be given a weekly information sheet that explains the skill that was taught and also provides them with tips of how to incorporate the skill in the home and/or school environment.

Designed for current

students with

Asperger’s syndrome

andHigh-functioning

Autism.
